We were back at The Vault on Pittsburgh’s North Side for this month. One more month at that location and then, in June, it’s off to RiverQuest (also on the North Side) to breakfast on one of their boats!
Here are the various resources and software tools discussed at the meeting:
Where to get technology grants at the present time (according to meeting participants)
Office 2007
-
Interactive Command Reference Guides (shows where Office 2003 command are in Office 2007) – http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/results.aspx?qu=command+reference+guide&sc=9
-
NOTE: the answer to the question “will Office 2007 run on Windows 2000?” is definitely ”no.” Windows XP must be at least SP2 or it won’t run on that either.
Microsoft Open License
-
Question from the meeting was “What happens when MS open licenses expire?”
-
Answer from Microsoft’s Web Site: “All Open License agreements have a term of 2 years. The 2-year term applies to your ability to place reorders at the same discount level via the reorder process, as well as to any Upgrade Advantage coverage you acquire. The licenses you obtain through the Open License program do not expire.”

Online Donation Engines
-
Network for Good – http://www.networkforgood.com
-
Local bank / merchant account providers
-
Not really a online donation engine, but Goodsearch.com was mentioned as a way to generate a little extra revenue (1 cent per usage, users designate the charity to which it goes) – http://www.goodsearch.com
Important of Web Site to an Organization
-
Shouldn’t be done by volunteers
-
Should make regular updates
-
Should track and analyze web site usage statistics
-
Should drive traffic to the site by always including the link in other organization marketing pieces
